Born in Southern India on November 23rd, 1926, in a then unknown village called Puttaparthi, he began his mission at the age of fourteen. He leads a simple life at the ashram located near the village of his birth.
Sathya Sai Baba has established hospitals, elementary and secondary schools and colleges, and a major university in India, all of which provide services at little or no charge. He has also inspired the creation of over 5000 Sathya Sai Baba Centres throughout the world, where followers practice his spiritual teachings and engage in a variety of community service activities , while continuing to adhere to their respective religions.
He re-emphasises principles that form the foundation of the world's major religions: Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love and Non-violence. He encourages us to practice these human values in our daily lives, and sets an inspiring example by the way he leads his own life.
He also says that politics without principles, education without character, science without humanity and commerce without morality are not only useless, but positively dangerous.
He says Let the different faiths exist, let them flourish, and let the glory of God be sung in all languages and in a variety of tunes. That should be the ideal. Respect the differences between faiths, and recognise them as valid, as long as they do not extinguish the flame of unity. If each person lives the ideals propounded by the founders of his religion, unaffected by greed or hate, then the world will be a happy and peaceful habitation for man .
Sathya Sai Baba stresses faith and confidence as necessary requisites for a happy and successful life. He says Confidence leads to peace, peace leads to love, love leads to truth, truth leads to bliss.
The responsibility for bringing about world peace, says Sathya Sai Baba, rests with the individual. His prescription is simple, yet profound.
